What is Rent?
If you rent your home and want to build your credit history, Rent is the credit-building tool for you.
We link your bank account safely to Loqbox and look for your rent payments.
Every time you pay your rent on time, we’ll tell Experian, a Credit Reference Agency (CRA). Those reports are positive credit-building signals lenders love to see.
You don’t need to change how you pay your rent, and each payment helps show lenders you can manage your money.
Three ways Rent supports your credit profile
- Rent builds your credit history: Positive payment history helps lenders see you as reliable.
- No negative marks: We only report successful payments, protecting your history.
- Low-effort credit building: Once it’s set up, Rent works automatically in the background.
How Rent works
Sign up for Loqbox membership
Loqbox membership gives you access to credit-building tools, like Rent.
Membership costs £2.99 per week, billed monthly. You don’t need to pay extra fees to use Rent.
Tell us some details about your rent
To get Rent set up, we need a few details. Tell us:
- When you started living at your home
- How much your rent is
- How often you pay your rent
- What date you pay your rent on
- What it says on your statement (like the name of your landlord or letting agent)
Connect your bank account securely
Rent uses Open Banking through our trusted partner Moneyhub to scan your transactions for your rent payment.
Once you’ve given us details about your rent, we’ll ask you to connect via Open Banking, and you’ll select which accounts you want to share with us.
We only look for your rent transactions, nothing else.
Pay your rent as usual
Whether you pay your landlord, letting agent, council, housing association, or even family or friends, we can track your regular payments.
No extra steps are needed each month, just pay your rent the way you normally do.
We report every successful payment to Experian
After six consecutive rent payments, your rental history can be reported to Experian.
It can take up to six weeks for your Experian file to update after we report.
💡If a payment can’t be matched one month, we simply don’t report it. There’s no missed payment mark on your credit file.
Even if it feels like a slow process, each confirmed payment strengthens your financial profile.
How long will it take to work?
When you start to see movement on your credit profile depends on your situation.
Here’s what to expect on your Rent journey:
- You need to make six consecutive payments before reporting starts. If you have already made six or more payments, we can go back through your transactions to see them, so you’re not waiting around.
- On the 21st of each month, we'll report the rent payment you made during the previous month.
- Allow up to six weeks for your Experian credit file to show the update.
💡We’ll email you if your bank connection needs to be refreshed (every 90 days for security).
